This summer, the Athens State University Writing Center is partnering with the Alabama Center for the Arts to host the 3rd Annual Summer Writing & Arts Summit (2025)— a unique and enriching event that brings together students, faculty, writers, and artists from our community to engage in a series of workshops, presentations, and collaborative sessions aimed at enhancing writing skills, showcasing talent, and fostering a culture of shared experiences through writing and the arts.

We’ve got something for everyone—whether you’re into poetry, publishing, or looking to find your people in a writing group. Hear from featured writers during our authors panel, pick up stage pointers in a special performance workshop and explore your artistic side with fiber arts, calligraphy, or watercolor journaling. Take a breather with yoga, mindfulness, or a peaceful forest bathing moment, and unwind at our laid-back Paint & Sip. Join us for a guided gallery tour of the Alabama Center for the Arts, check out unique finds at our artist vendor fair, and take the stage and help us close the summit with an open mic celebration Friday afternoon, where we’ll announce the winners of our 1st Annual Writing & Art Contest and preview the upcoming revival of Athens State’s literary journal Athena’s Web.

The 3rd Annual Summer Writing and Arts Summit will kick off at 9:00 am on the campus of Athens State University on Thursday, June 26th, and continue at the Alabama Center for the Arts in Decatur on Friday, June 27th.
