Senior Saunter at Harvest Square Nature Preserve

Senior Saunter is designed for Land Trust members aged 60 and older (or anyone who feels young at heart and enjoys a slower pace). These gatherings are an opportunity to connect with nature and one another without the pressure of keeping up with a group hike or reaching a destination.  Some participants enjoy taking a leisurely stroll, while others prefer birdwatching, fishing, reading, journaling, photography, or simply sitting and enjoying the scenery. Senior Saunter is about spending time outdoors, making new friends, and experiencing our preserves in a relaxed and welcoming environment.

First-time guests are welcome to join us. We invite returning participants to become Land Trust members and support the conservation of North Alabama’s special places. Please come prepared for the weather and nature’s little distractions. Water, sunscreen, insect repellent, and comfortable shoes are always recommended. We look forward to spending time with you on the preserves!

Join Lynne Weninegar for an early morning saunter along the boardwalks at Harvest Square Nature Preserve. View two naturally stocked man-made ponds, bring a fishing pole (if you have your fishing license) for a little “catch and release” time, or just hang out around the pavilion and watch birds and butterflies! Stroll the boardwalks, watch birds and butterflies, spend time by the ponds, try a little catch-and-release fishing (with a valid fishing license), or simply relax with a book or journal beneath the pavilion. Participants are welcome to explore at their own pace and choose the activities that interest them most.  Though located in a busy area, Harvest Square offers a peaceful escape and a chance to slow down, connect with nature, and enjoy good company.
