Fifth Third’s strategic expansion in the Southeast, now in its eighth year, originally focused on Tennessee, Georgia, the Carolinas and Florida, and now includes Alabama.

The bank opened its first Alabama branch in Birmingham in July of 2024. Ultimately, according to company officials, the bank wants to open as many as 10 branches in the Huntsville area alone.

The first Huntsville location will be at 5903 University Dr NW, Huntsville, AL 35806.

“The state of Alabama is an extremely attractive and important region for us. Our long-term growth plan includes attracting and retaining talent who understand Birmingham’s unique market landscape within the Commercial and Private Bank divisions so we can meet our clients’ needs today, and in the future.”

According to the Birmingham Business Journal, Fifth Third applied on Feb. 27 to open the Huntsville branch, with the goal to have multiple locations open in the next year.

The bank will likely hire up to 80 new employees for in-branch roles, asset management roles, mortgage delivery roles and support roles.
