You can help beautify North Alabama by planting these free trees

We all already known that North Alabama is full of gorgeous trees, and one organization wants to enhance the regions beauty by planting more.

The Alabama Forestry Commission will host a tree giveaway in Limestone County this Tuesday, February 20. The giveaway is open to Athens, Limestone and Madison County residents. Plant these trees in your yard or around your community to celebrate Arbor Day.

How you can get your free trees

Head to the EMA building in Athens between 8AM-12PM to pick up your free trees. This event will include information about proper tree planting and the importance of vegetation.

The following species will be available:

  • Crab apple
  • Redbud
  • White Dogwood
  • American Hornbeam
  • Red Maple
  • Persimmon
  • Blad Cypress
  • Tulip-poplar
  • Scarlet oak
  • Snow hill hydrangea
  • Pecan
  • Red oak
  • White oak
  • Willow oak

Celebrate Arbor Day across Alabama

While Arbor Day is celebrated federally on Friday, April 26, Alabama celebrates the holiday during the last week of February.

There are tons of tree giveaways and celebrations planned for across the state.
