Here are 7 Juneteenth events in Huntsville that you need to know about

Juneteenth is coming quickly, and Huntsville is ready to celebrate. This is the second year that June 19, also known as Emancipation Day, will be observed as a federal holiday.

Want to get in on the celebration? Read on for seven events happening in Huntsville over the week leading up to Juneteenth.

1. Juneteenth Celebration: Two Worlds

Opera Huntsville presents “Two Worlds,” a Juneteenth Celebration featuring Black artists performing classical and jazz pieces. The event costs $10 and will take place at Robyn’s Garden Winery. Head out to celebrate local talent while supporting a local winery for Juneteenth.

2. Negro League Tribute Night

The Psi Kappa Kappa chapter of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity presents Negro League Tribute Night at the Thursday evening Trash Pandas baseball game in honor of Juneteenth. The event will honor the history of Black Americans in baseball while also benefitting the Y.O.U.T.H. Friendship Foundation.

3. Juneteenth Celebration at The Camp

No one throws a Saturday festival like The Camp. On June 18, they’ll be celebrating Juneteenth with food and drink specials and live music from the following:

  • Dee-1
  • Lockhart & The Family
  • Wade Brown
  • Stephen “PR” Kane
  • + more!

4. Rocket City Juneteenth Music Fest

The Rocket City Juneteenth Music Fest is billed as “the largest cultural celebration of North Alabama.” This outdoor festival at Lowe Mill will feature performances from local artists, food and drink vendors, optional VIP packages and more. Bring the whole family—kid-friendly activities will be available, too.

5. FUS-22 Juneteenth Event

The FUS-22 Juneteenth Event will feature local food trucks, bakers and retailers. The event is named after the FUS protein, which event organizers say represents everything the event embodies, namely building community.

6. A Night of Comedy and Live Music

Need a laugh? Club 3208 will be hosting a night of stand-up comedy and live music in celebration of Juneteenth. Comedy shows start at 10PM and music starts at midnight.

7. Juneteenth Adult Skate

Cap off the weekend of Juneteenth with a night of roller skating. Roller Time will host DJs from 8PM to midnight on June 19, and you can join in on the fun for just $10. Skate rental is $3.
