Huntsville moves forward with new road contracts in Limestone County

At its Thursday, October 8, 2026 meeting, the City of Huntsville approved two engineering design contracts for road improvements for Greenbrier Parkway interchange at Interstate 565 and improvements on U.S. 72.
This is in the Huntsville-annexed portion of Limestone County, outlined in the proposed tax increment financing district that includes the interchange. Improvements will facilitate traffic flow for an area that includes Mazda Toyota, Polaris and Amazon as well as the future site of the Eli Lilly and Company campus.

What to know about these new contracts in Limestone County

The City approved a design contract with SAIN Associates, for the Greenbrier Parkway interchange at Interstate 565 for northbound access improvements that will include upgrades at Greenbrier Parkway and Greenbrier Road just north of the interchange.
The contract includes a traffic corridor analysis, field surveys and new geometric roadway design.
The work is scheduled for completion by April 2028.
On U.S. 72 West, the City is contracting with Kimley-Horn & Associates for a traffic impact study and intersection improvements on U.S. 72 near East Limestone Road and Holladay Boulevard, in accordance with Alabama Department of Transportation permitting requirements.
The study is expected to be completed by July 2027.
