Surfing in Huntsville? That’s right—the Huntsville Business Journal announced that Huntsville has been chosen as the host for one stop of the MotoSurf America North American summer tour July 8-10.
Read on to find out how it’ll work, + two other sporting events coming to Huntsville this summer.
Extreme sports in HSV
It’s no secret that Huntsville is a hub for sports, from our favorite minor league teams like the Trash Pandas & the Havoc to the endless adult sporting leagues available.
This summer, the city will be the home for three unique sporting events:
- MotoSurf America
- MotoSkate America’s Cup
- Spartan Combat
MotoSurf
MotoSurf, a motorized surfing competition, will be competing in the lagoon at Brahan Spring Park. Huntsville joins Keystone Heights, Florida, and Sebring, Florida, as one of three hosts for the summer tour. The competition’s culmination will be broadcast on CBS.
Competitors use JetSurf motorized surfboards to race on a predetermined track. The organization claims that MotoSurf is the “most advanced, safest and cheapest” motorsport and invites anyone interested in becoming a racer to sign up online.
MotoSkate
The premise for MotoSkate is the same: Racers on motorized skateboards compete on a track to see who is the fastest. There are several different ways to compete, and different categories for store-bought and homemade boards. Sign up to race online.
The location has not yet been announced for MotoSkate. The results of the MotoSkate competition will also be televised.
Youth Wrestling
The Spartan Combat Rocket Rumble youth wrestling tournament comes to Huntsville July 3 and will be hosted at the Von Braun Center South Hall. Register to compete in one of four competitions:
- Duals
- Folkstyle
- Freestyle
- Greco
