Huntsville transit service – 2 meetings for new plans and improvement

On Wednesday, June 5 at 9:30AM, Orbit transit service users and patrons were encouraged to attend a meeting regarding changes and improvements to Huntsville’s public transit system.
Orbit is looking for customer engagement to expand its offerings and improve its current state.
Another meeting reviewing feedback will be held on June 12th at 9:30AM in Transfer Station Platform (500B Church St., Huntsville, AL 35801).
Attendees will have the opportunity to view proposed routes and speak directly to Huntsville transit officials to give suggestions as well as feedback.

Proposed routes for transit service
The proposed routes for Orbit are as follows:
Route 1
Outbound on 1st Street SW through Bob Wallace Avenue, Route 1 will continue South onto Ivy Avenue, then left on Drake. The inbound route will be the reverse.
Route 2
The Outbound route will travel from the Downtown Transit Center, and continue south on Church Street to Gallatin Street, left on Longwood Drive, right on Whitesburg Drive, right on Bob Wallace, left on Patton Road, left on Drake Avenue, right on Newsom Road SW, right on Gruden Drive SW, left on Squaw Valley Drive, right on Centaur Boulevard, left on Telstar Circle SW, right on Patton Road, right on Bob Wallace Avenue, left on Longwood Drive, right on Gallatin Street to Church Street, then inbound back to Downtown Transit Center.
Route 4
Outbound Route 4 buses will drive west on University Drive, make a right turn onto Perimeter Parkway NW, then turn left on Wayne Circle NW.
Route 5
The outbound route 5 path will go South on Church Street, right on Clinton Avenue, left on Triana Boulevard, left on Drake Avenue, right on Cobb Road, right on Knight Road, left on Johnson Road, right on Parkway Access Road, right on Golf Road, left on Hunters Ridge Drive SW, right on Highridge Drive SW, and right on Golf Road.
Then the route will continue right on Parkway Access Road, right on Byrd Spring Road with a transfer point for Routes 5 and 56, right on Benaroya Lane SW, right on Martin Road, left to head north on Parkway Access Road, left on Airport Road, right on Knight Road, left on Hood Road SW onto Cobb Road, left on Drake Avenue, right on Triana Boulevard, right on Clinton Avenue, and then left on Church Street and onto the Downtown Transit Center.
Route 6
Outbound buses will travel south on Church Street to Gallatin Street, left on Longwood Drive, right on Whitesburg Drive, right on Whitesport Drive, left on Hospital Drive, right on Airport Road, left on Balmoral Drive, left on Breckenridge Drive, right on Queensbury Drive, and then right on Airport Road to Valley Bend Drive. The inbound route from Airport Road will go take connecting road Hospital Drive and right on Whitesport Drive, then left on Whitesburg Drive.
Route 56
Route 56 will drive South along the Parkway and Parkway Access Road then along Hobbs and Bailey Cove roads in both directions to make transfer connections between Byrd Spring Road as well as at the Valley Bend Shopping Center.
Relevance
Public transportation is important for growing cities, and a good program is essential for Huntsville. Not to mention it’s a much more sustainable option than driving individually.
