Reading time: 2 minutes

One of the busiest roads in the Huntsville area could get even more congested this week, as the Alabama Department of Transportation closed the outermost lanes on US-72/University Drive at Sparkman Drive in Huntsville today for bridge repairs.
As well, the auxiliary lane leading to the exit to Sparkman Drive is closed.
Here’s what to know:
Lanes on US-72 closed all week

The bridge repairs work is expected to take all week, weather permitting. However, with rain expected daily through Friday, the work may take longer.
More details:
- The auxiliary lane leading to the exit to Sparkman Drive is closed, though the exit remains open.
- Both lanes will remain closed for an extended period, at least through the weekend.
- Two westbound through lanes and all three eastbound lanes remain open.
ALDOT advises motorists to expect delays in the area and to plan additional travel time and consider using alternate travel routes, such as I-565.
