What is the scatter garden at Maple Hill?

The Maple Hill scatter garden will be a place where families can respectfully scatter cremated remains of a loved one. The contract for this project includes design services, surveying and construction administration and is expected to take about one year.

“We want families to feel comforted here, knowing they have a beautiful, intentional location for scattering cremains and gathering in moments that matter.”

Tara Sloan, Director of Cemeteries

The 81-acre cemetery was established on just two-acres in 1818 and is not only the oldest cemetery in Alabama, but is also currently the largest.
