Momentum Leaders — an Alabama nonprofit dedicated to advancing women as leaders — has been awarded a $223,000 grant award to fuel and expand its mission in Huntsville.

The grant comes as Momentum was also recently awarded an Innovate Alabama Network designation. Here’s what it means for Huntsville:

Momentum Leaders as an organization is dedicated to advancing women in leadership through professional development, mentoring and networking.

By providing leadership training, events, mentoring and resources, Momentum is helping shape Alabama’s workforce and innovation ecosystem.

Especially pertinent to Huntsville, the organization empowers women in underrepresented fields—such as STEM, IT, manufacturing and entrepreneurship—by equipping them with the skills, support, and connections they need to lead.

Each year, Momentum reaches more than 10,000 women across the state. So this $223,000 grant can go a long way toward strengthening Momentum’s impact in the Huntsville area.

“This investment allows us to deepen our impact in North Alabama, where women in STEM are breaking new ground every day. Together, we’re not just imagining a more inclusive future—we’re building it.

April Benetollo, CEO, Momentum Leaders

Leaders within the organization say that expanding and sustaining talent pipelines for women in tech is an ongoing challenge in Huntsville—even as the city stands out with one of the highest concentrations of STEM jobs in the state at 16.7%.

To ensure women have the opportunity to thrive in these growing fields, greater access to mentorship, leadership development and professional networks is essential to the organization.

“Momentum plays a vital role in empowering accomplished women by fostering professional networks and relationships, particularly in male-dominated fields. It is a valuable platform for exceptional women in STEM to share insights, support one another, and develop the next generation of strong leaders, both locally and globally.”

Jody Singer, retired Center Director at Marshall Space Flight Center
