What’s new with Madison’s Animal Control facility?
City Council member Maura Wroblewski said this new facility, located at 400 Celtic Drive, has been a project in the making for the last 10 years.
The new facility includes:
- 6 dog runs
- A cat room
- Bathing station
- Outdoor area for the animals
- Improved air-conditioning and heating
“We wanted to provide this facility for the animals, but also for the staff who are the heartbeat of this whole operation.”
Maura Wroblewski, Madison City Council
The funding for the project came directly from the police department—under which animal control operates—and cost the city about $645,000 in total.
While most of the animals Madison picks up are returned to their rightful owners, a percentage are strays, Wroblewski said. She added that the shelter works closely with local animal adoption agencies to find homes for all the animals in the city.
