A new mural in downtown Athens — commissioned by the Coca-Cola Company — has been completed, and pays homage to an older mural that once existed in the spot.

The public art piece, at Market & Monroe, is the latest addition to Athens’ collection of beautiful downtown murals.

Owners of the Market & Monroe venue, at 100 Market St W, Athens, AL 35611, found photos of an old Coca-Cola mural on the side of its building and liked the idea of bringing it back, and worked with Coca-Cola on restoring the historic work.

Artist Brian Tull was commissioned by the Coca-Cola Company to recreate an early 1900’s classic style mural at the historic spot.

Artist Brian Tull has done murals in Nashville, Brevard, N.C., Chicago and other cities throughout the U.S. and has been commissioned to paint several works on a variety of media.

“My paintings are about making the acrylic, oil and brushes work. They’re about me constantly improving technique with an interest in composition, narrative, and technicalities. For you, realize the people and objects in my paintings are real; the stories they tell are up to you. Inspired by life, completed by faith.”
