General contractor Brasfield & Gorrie achieved substantial completion on the building in late July, making way for the first U.S. Courts tenant to prepare plans for relocation and occupancy. Landscaping work will continue through the end of this calendar year.

The 123,100 gross-square-foot building will house the U.S. District Court, Northern District of Alabama. It includes:

  • Five courtrooms
  • Six judges’ chambers
  • Workspace for U.S. Marshals Service, the U.S Probation and Pretrial Services, GSA and a U.S. Senate Office
  • 26 secured parking spaces

“This new federal courthouse represents the best of what is possible when federal and local governments, as well as public and private sectors work together. Projects like this require a great deal of planning and coordination by GSA employees. It’s exciting to reach a milestone like this because I know how much time, work, and energy has gone into the planning.”
