What is a “universal playground”?
Cove Universal Playground is not your average playground. It’s all about inclusivity, allowing children with cognitive and physical disabilities to play right alongside those without disabilities.
This is the first universal playground in North Alabama and the second in Alabama as a whole.
Several features at the playground make it fun for everyone. Here’s are some of the installations they’ve made apart of the playground through the phases of its construction.
- Adaptive swinging
- Cozy spot for sensory relief
- Inclusive music
- Universal signage
- Sensory area
- Wide ramp
- Adapted play panel
- Accessible upper body event
Sunday, officials held a ribbon-cutting ceremony to mark the completion of this inclusive playground that’s already grabbing community leaders’ attention.
“The playground is an incredible addition to the community and all of North Alabama and has already sparked action from community members looking to replicate the model in other parts of Madison County.”
