By now, you know that Rock the South 2026 officially postponed from June 11-13 to October 1-4 because of unexpected heavy rain over the past weeks, causing poor conditions on the grounds.

Meanwhile, this weekend is still a great time to get out and enjoy North Alabama businesses that have been preparing for months to welcome thousands of guests.

Read on for local tips on where to go in Decatur and the surrounding areas for live music, food, drinks and adventures.

Great restaurants and bars in the downtown Decatur historic districts have booked live music all weekend.

Start on historic Bank Street for live music at Bank St. Grill and sample the drinks and food there, Simp McGhee’s and 609 Social Market & Provisions, which are all within easy walking distance of one another.

Cruise around the corner onto the historic Second Avenue downtown district for more.

Concert: Shelly Fairchild at the Princess Theatre on Saturday, June 13

The iconic neon marquee of the Princess Theatre makes Decatur’s Second Avenue downtown district easy to spot. Follow the glow of this historic theater to its singer-songwriter series on Thursday night, June 11, and a Shelly Fairchild concert on Saturday night, June 13.

If you’ve never been, you’ll be floored by the legendary tales of iconic music that’s come out of North Alabama. Among the thousands, three of my favorites are The Rolling Stones’ “Wild Horses,” Wilson Pickett’s “Mustang Sally” and Paul Simon’s “Kodachrome.”

While the plans for Rock the South 2026 have changed, we hope these tips will deliver a fun weekend full of great music, food and adventures to hold you over until October.
