Try these springtime 5K + 10K runs in the Huntsville area

Spring is a great time to get out and exercise, especially if you are a runner — not too hot, not too cold — and the Rocket City offers plenty of organized 10K and 5K runs in the Huntsville area throughout the next couple of months.

1. Dueling Banjos 5K/10K

The Dueling Banjos 5K/10K is a 2-for-1 race at McMullen Cove is one of the tougher runs in the Huntsville area that pairs the extremely hard uphill 5K trail race with a net-negative downhill 10K trail race.

2. David McKannan Memorial Run

This run is held in memory of David McKannan, an avid runner, loving father, husband and brother who lost his battle with ALS in 2012. The course is flat and fast running along the shaded paths and along the river. This includes a 5K and a 1-mile fun run.

3. Arbor Day 5K Race and 3K Sapling Fun Run

The Huntsville Botanical Garden hosts this  5K Race and 3K Sapling Run to highlight the importance of trees and their impact on our communities.

4. Rotary Club of Madison .5K Couch Potato Run

If you are looking for one of the more light-hearted runs in the Huntsville area this spring, join the Rotary Club of Madison for a Parrot Race and Couch Potato Race at the Madison Town Center.

The Parrot is a laid-back 0.5K (about 600 yards) of pure fun. Whether you walk, jog, strut, or stroll, this “race” is all about enjoying the moment with your friends, family and pets

The Couch Potato Race is where teams race decorated couches (yes, actual couches!) around the 0.5K course in timed heats. Up to 12 teams can compete for glory, bragging rights, and possibly the most ridiculous trophy you’ve ever seen.

5. 4th Annual Whiskey Run

The 4th Annual Whiskey Run is a community race at Palmer Park in Madison. With a half-marathon, 10K or 5k to choose from, these races (held all over the country throughout the year) also include some fun events after the races are over.

6. 2025 Cotton Row Run

For 45 years, the Cotton Row Run has been the premiere Memorial Day running event in the South that honors fallen military members who sacrificed their lives for our freedom. This events includes a 10K, 5K and 1-mile fun run.

7. Eurocross 5K + 8K

Eurocross is the perfect combination of the athleticism and spectator attraction of steeplechase with the challenge and varied terrain of cross-country. The 5K race will be the same as previous years.It will involve running multiple loops of a 1K grass and dirt course with creek crossings.
