Here’s what’s happening in the Huntsville area this weekend

While technically this coming weekend is not “really” a holiday weekend, it sort of is since July 4th is on Tuesday this year. So, since many people will stretch this into a long weekend, we can treat it as such.

And if you are looking for things to do this weekend in and around Huntsville, you’re in luck because we have plenty to do. Here’s what’s happening in the Huntsville area this weekend:

Live Music

The Orion is hosting a pretty big show this weekend with Ja Rule/Ashanti that should sell out if it has not already (so you better get your tickets if you plan to go), and there are some more cool live music shows happening in the Huntsville area this weekend as well:

  • Bad Camaro: June 30, Stovehouse 7PM. Bad Camaro has been serving up hot rock & roll to the Tennessee Valley and beyond for the better part of a decade, and you can catch them live at Stovehouse.
  • Ja Rule + Ashanti: July 30, Orion Amphitheater, 7:30PM. Catch these two music legends performing in one incredible show at the Orion.
  • Annie Dukes: July 1, Rocket Republic, 8PM. The female rock/grunge band from Florida is making its way back to Huntsville. Join them at Rocket Republic for a night of pure rock n roll alongside Huntsville locals Odd Polly.
  • 3-Way Handshake: July 1, Furniture Factory – Providence, 8PM. Come join 3Way Handshake for some great music with three Lead Girl singers that can do some awesome harmonies.
  • Sunday Jazz Jam: July 2, Yellowhammer Brewing, 3PM. This is a family-friendly music event featuring Chip Gulbro, Tom Winstead and Marcus Pope.

Festivals, Theater, Shows, Markets

Between some great farmers and makers markets and some cool family events, there’s plenty of stuff happening in the Huntsville area this weekend:

  • Jurassic Quest: June 30-July 2, Von Braun Center, 12-8PM. Jurassic Quest is the world’s largest, most popular Dino event with the unique and exciting experiences for the whole family.
  • Derrick Stroup: June 30-July 1, Stand Up Live, 6PM. With the cadence of an angry auctioneer, Stroup engages his audiences with his detailed stories, over the top energy and southern charm.
  • Madison County Farmers Market: July 1, 1022 Cook Avenue, 8AM. One of the largest and most popular farmers markets in the area, the Madison County Farmers market has your local produce needs met.
  • Butterfly Release: July 1, Huntsville Botanical Garden, 10AM. If you have never experienced this before, it is a must! Guests of all ages will enjoy sharing in the magic of safely releasing live butterflies into the Purdy Butterfly House
  • Market at MidCity: July 2, MidCity District, 11AM. See tons of vendors, food trucks, live music and more at this market – and find some cool stuff to buy!

Want to find some sports happening in the Huntsville area this weekend? Whether you are wanting to watch or wanting to participate, there are some sports and fitness events in the area just for you:

  • Fitness in the Park: July 1, Big Spring Park, 9AM. Enjoy a free fitness class at the beautiful Big Spring Park to get your Saturday started.
  • I Love America 5K: July 1, Whitesburg Christian Academy, 7AM. Enjoy this pleasant yet challenging 5K course starting at Whitesburg Academy in Huntsville.
  • X41H Football Camp: July 1, Monrovia High School, 11AM-5PM. This is an awesome football camp hosted by Clark-Atlanta Linebacker Xavier Hopkins.
  • Huntsville City FC vs New England: July 2, Joe Davis Stadium, 6PM. Cheer on your HCFC as they take on the NewEngland Revolution II.
  • Yoga at the Orion: July 2, Orion Amphitheater, 9AM. Pay what you can donate and enjoy a yoga class at the picturesque Orion Amphitheater.
