12 easy Huntsville-themed Halloween costumes only locals will know
Reading time: 4 minutes

If you’re like me and plan last-minute when it comes to Halloween, we have some easy family-friendly costume ideas that are sure to be a hit with locals!
Check out these Huntsville-themed Halloween costumes:
1. Lowe Mill artist

Starting with a personal favorite—a Lowe Mill artist!
Wear paint-splattered clothes and apron, best accented with:
- Piper & Leaf mason jar
- Tote bag from Vertical House Records
- Paint + brushes from Huntsville Art Supplies
2. Engineer

Print your own replica CAC card (IYKYK) and don some khakis, polo and glasses to be a local engineer.
Play it up by saying, “It’s top secret,” anytime someone asks you a question. 😉
3. Local sports fan

Likely the easiest on our list—grab a jersey from a local sports team to dress as a fan or player.
Don’t have a jersey? Find one in the online merch shops:
4. Mama Zelda

Spoiler, I’ll be dressing up as Mama Zelda this year! Huntsville Botanical Garden’s iconic 18-foot troll look can be easily replicated with her signature teal wooden necklace, a brown sweater and vines.
The troll’s creator, Thomas Dambo, also shared a more in-depth tutorial on how to make your own troll costume out of cardboard (much like his trolls are made from recycled materials).
5. Eggbeater Jesus

You can’t go wrong with being the iconic Eggbeater Jesus mural, formally known as Cosmic Christ.
For an easy take, grab this shirt from Huntsvillustrated online or in their Lowe Mill studio.
Or, put on a robe and accessorize with a bowl, whisk and yellow crown.
6. Microwave Dave tribute

Honor one of Huntsville’s most legendary musicians and community figures who passed in February 2026.
‘Microwave’ Dave Gallaher had quite the signature look, almost always seen wearing:
- Overalls
- White or denim collar shirt
- Mirrored glasses
- Newsboy hat
- Cigar box guitar from the world’s only Cigar Box Guitar Store in Lowe Mill
7. Hiker

Be a Monte Sano trailblazer with hiking gear and this shirt from Huntsvillustrated depicting the historic Monte Sano Hotel, once known for its healing waters and serene mountain landscape.
8. Lily Flagg

If you’re wanting to go the farm animal route, might I suggest a Huntsville twist?
Wear cow print and a lei with a trophy in hand to instantly become Lily Flagg, AKA the top butter producer in the world in 1892. This famous cow produced 1,047 lbs of butter in her record year, and Huntsville locals threw extravagant parties in her honor.
9. Rocket or astronaut

Can’t go without stating the obvious—dress as an astronaut!
The U.S. Space & Rocket Center gift shop is the perfect place to find all your Artemis II and NASA astronaut gear (from helmets and patches to spacesuits and jackets).
Or, you could be the Saturn V itself. Bonus points if you can make it to the moon!
10. Miss Baker

For a creative twist on a typical astronaut, put on some monkey ears and tail to be Huntsville’s own Miss Baker, AKA the famous monkeynaut that changed space history.
Maybe you could even give out bananas in exchange for candy!
11. Lowe Mill bat

ICYDK, Lowe Mill has its own resident community of bats, as indicated by these well known warning signs in its stairwells. Print one out to be a Lowe Mill bat!
Plus, get the perfect photo-op in front of the bat mural outside Lowe Mill Studio 272.
12. Ghost of Maple Hill Cemetery

The easiest way out—throw a sheet over your head to be a Maple Hill Cemetery ghost!
Take photos in one of Huntsville’s most haunted destinations—Dead Children’s Playground in Maple Hill Park.
