Arab begins construction on new high school
Reading time: 2 minutes

Earlier this month, ground was offically broken on what will become Arab’s next high school. The current campus dates back to the 1950s and can support roughly 750 students, which is quickly becoming too small.
The new school will be in a prime location along Highway 231, visible to everyone entering Arab from the North.

Learn more about the new Arab High School
The new Arab High School will be a two-story, 221,800 square-foot building—costing an estimated $55 to $70 million. It will include modern learning spaces, as well as a 800-seat auditorium, precision machining lab, competition gyms and a storm shelter.
The Board of Education secured a $57.6 million dollar issue with the city for the structure, the majority of which will be funded by an additional one-cent tax passed by Marshall County Commission.
Construction will be completed by Martin & Cobey Construction Company, Inc. This is a consulting, planning and construction firm based out of Athens, Alabama.
“You know it will be an ultra-modern, very large high school, sixty million dollars. It will be a place for them to spread out and it will be something the whole community can be proud of…”
Johnny Berry, Superintendent
The high school is slated to be finished in 2028, and Arab residents are excited about having a new and improved place for their kids to attend school.
