Oakwood University names Gina Spivey-Brown new president

Oakwood University named its 12th president last week, Dr. Gina Spivey-Brown. She becomes the first female president of the university, and will replace Dr. Leslie Pollard — who has served as president for the last 15 years.
About Dr. Gina Spivey-Brown

Dr. Gina Spivey-Brown will not only become Oakwood University’s first female president, but only the third non-clergy president in the 129-year history of the school.
Here are some facts about Dr. Spivey-Brown:
- She has served as Dean of the College of Nursing and Allied Health Sciences at Howard University for the past 10 years.
- Brown held the position of Dean for the School of Health Professions, Science and Wellness at Washington Adventist University for 12 years.
- For almost four years, Brown held an academic position within the School of Nursing at the prestigious Loma Linda University.
- She earned an undergraduate nursing and an undergraduate biology degree, both from Oakwood.
- She received her Master of Science degree in Health Services Administration from Central Michigan University in 1989 and her Ph.D. degree in Nursing Administration (with a focus on Policy and Ethics) from George Mason University in 1999.
