It’s the first day of March and (according to James Spann) the first day of meteorological spring—aka, the day that meteorologists recognize as the beginning of the spring season. In Huntsville, that means more daylight, warmer weather and plants blooming.
It also means that spring events are back. Read on for our roundup of 11 events you don’t want to miss this month.
1. Huntsville Museum of Art Gala
Date: Thursday, March 3
Time: Cocktails begin at 6PM. Dinner is served at 7, and live auction begins at 8
Details: Celebrate the 31st Gala Black Tie Dinner & Live Auction with the Huntsville Museum of Art. Dinner will be catered by Chef James Boyce, the mastermind behind Huntsville staples Cotton Row, Commerce Kitchen and Grille on Main.

2. Huntsville Comic Convention
Date: March 4-5
Time: 11AM-7PM both days
Details: Huntsville Comic Con 2022 will feature special guests like author Sherrilyn Kenyon, comic book legend Mike Grell and actor Michael Copon. Admission is free, but parking will be $10/vehicle.

3. Elevate the Stage College Gymnastics Meet
Date: March 4-6
Time: Youth meets begin at 3:30 Friday; NCAA Meet is 1PM Sunday
Details: Elevate the Stage is a gymnastics meet featuring a youth competition and culminating in an NCAA Meet Sunday afternoon. See the Georgia Bulldogs, Alabama Crimson Tide, Auburn Tigers and Arkansas Razorbacks compete for the win.

4. Community Kite Festival
Date: March 5
Time: 11AM-3PM

5. Spring Home and Garden Show
Date: March 4-6
Time: Friday 1PM-5PM; Saturday 10AM-6PM; Sunday 12PM-5PM

6. UCP’s An Irish Evening
Date: March 11
Time: 6PM-9PM
Details: Celebrate St. Patrick’s Day while supporting a good cause in Huntsville. Tickets are $25 and support United Cerebral Palsy Huntsville, a nonprofit that provides services to families and individuals dealing with cerebral palsy.

7. Huntsville St. Patrick’s Day Parade & After Party
Date: March 12
Time: Parade starts at 11AM; After party is 1:30PM-11PM

8. Persian Festival of Fire
Date: March 15
Time: 6:30PM-9:30PM
Details: The Persian Community in Huntsville is partnering with The Camp and MidCity District to celebrate Chaharshanbeh Suri, an Iranian festival preceding Norwuz, the Iranian New Year. Admission is $15/person.

9. NEACA Craft Show
Date: March 18-20

10. Lashay B’s Prom Dress Drive
Date: March 19
Time: 12PM-2PM
Details: Shenna “Lashay B” Townsend, DJ and radio host on 103.1, is accepting new and gently used prom dresses for teens in need. Hair services, jewelry, makeup and photo shoots will also be given away at the event.

11. Family Campout in the Garden
Date: March 25-26
Time: Friday 5PM-Saturday 8AM
Details: Bring the whole family to the Huntsville Botanical Garden for a campout complete with a guided night hike, roasting s’mores and more. You’ll need to supply your own camping equipment, and admission costs vary by group size.
