Within the next two weeks, construction will begin on a new park and pavilion area at MidCity.

This project is one of the last to be announced for the area formerly home to Madison Square Mall.

The new park is on the smaller side, only occupying a quarter-acre, but along with the park will be:

  • New roadway pavers
  • On-street parking
  • Decorative street lighting
  • A small pavilion
  • Seating areas
  • Irrigation and utilities

The concept art (shown above) has numerous stalls and booths lining the pavilion; maybe this site will be the home of some future street fairs or farmers markets.

This new park is also not the only one coming to MidCity:

Apollo Park is a 20-acre park situated between Top Gold and Orion Amphitheater.

The park began construction last year with an almost $8 million budget.

The park is set to open later this year and will include:

  • Walking paths
  • Green spaces
  • A fitness court
  • Original artwork by Jean-Michel Basquiat
  • Beautiful landscaping

The park will also feature a large lagoon, which will be open for kayaking and canoeing.
