A fond farewell: 7 local businesses that closed in 2024

We covered some of the 150+ businesses that opened this year, but unfortunately, we also had to say goodbye to some other local businesses. Although the list is much shorter. we did want to take a look at the local businesses that closed their doors in 2024.

Here are some of them:

1. Lucky Dice Cafe

Lucky Dice Cafe in South Huntsville unfortunately closed its doors over the summer. The local cafe was known for its friendly staff and the ample support they gave their community.

2. Fusion Barbecue

A popular restaurant at Lincoln Mill, closed in January of this year. However, a new restaurant — Salt Smokehouse — opened in its place with a similar menu and some of the same staff.

3. The Bakingtist

Despite tremendous support that involved a Kickstarter campaign in October of 2022 to raise $35,000 to open, The Bakingtist closed in January of this year.

4. Walmart Neighborhood Market

Although technically still open for a few more days, the Walmart Neighborhood Market on Oakwood Avenue announced it will close Dec. 20.

The closing of the location at 4226 NW Oakwood Ave. is part of a phase of closings and redirection nationwide for the retail giant. Of the three Walmart Neighborhood Market locations in the Huntsville area, the Oakwood Ave. location had been the lowest performing.

5. Flight Plan Wine + Tapas

Flight Plan Wine & Tapas in Jones Valley was a unique spot for wine enthusiasts, and offered some delicious bites. Open for five years with a loyal following, Flight Plan closed in August.

6. Wahlburgers

Owned by actor Mark Wahlberg and his family, Wahlburgers opened in MidCity in 2020. The restaurant closed in April this year.

7. Twisted Tree Vintage Market

The Madison vintage market Twisted Tree closed at the end of January. For six-and-a-half years, it housed over 80 vendors who sold unique furniture, home decor and boutique clothing.
