Only in Huntsville… (McCarley Northway / Hville Blast)

Events happen in Huntsville all the time, and we try to hit up as many as we can.

This year was no exception so check out 5 of our favorite events that you can attend in the Rocket City.

1. Candy Drop at Redstone Arsenal’s Winterville

The sign says it all. (McCarley Northway / Hville Blast)

We don’t know a lot about what happens on Redstone Arsenal (it’s top secret, obviously). What we do know is that their annual “Winterville” celebration is an absolute blast.

The holiday market and tree lighting event takes place one weekend every December. Of course, there are pictures with Santa Claus, winter games and crafts, but the best part is the candy drop.

A helicopter flies down to deliver huge bags of candy to all the children there. How cool is that?

2. Markets at MidCity, Lowe Mill, Providence + more

Huntsville flea market
The Huntsville Flea market was definitely a highlight this year. (McCarley Northway / Hville Blast)

It seems like there’s a different market happening in Huntsville almost every weekend. They’re a perfect place to grab fresh produce, shop from local artisans or just enjoy an afternoon walk.

Here are some of the best reoccurring markets you can put on your calendar for next year:

Specialty markets occur all the time, and you can usually score some awesome vintage finds. We’ll keep you updated next year about when some of our favorite limited time markets will return. Check them out in the meantime:

3. Maple Hill Cemetery Stroll

Maple Hill Cemetery is gorgeous in the fall. (McCarley Northway / Hville Blast)

Maple Hill Cemetery is Huntsville’s oldest cemetery that’s still in use. It’s full of haunting legends, and that’s where the cemetery stroll comes in.

It isn’t as scary as a ghost tour, although we love those too. Instead, the stroll is an annual event where more than 75 costumed characters come to life to share the history and life story of a person buried at the cemetery.

4. So many parades

The Christmas Parade was Huntsville’s most recent. (McCarley Northway / Hville Blast)

Huntsville has parades all the time, but we have a few favorites:

  • The St. Patrick’s Day Parade
  • The Veteran’s Day Parade
  • The Christmas Parade

If you’re itching to attend another parade soon, no need to worry. The Martin Luther King Jr. Day Parade will be held on Sat., Jan. 13 in downtown Huntsville.

5. Fabulous Festivals

crush wine and food festival events
Cheers to the Crush Wine + Food Festival. (McCarley Northway / Hville Blast)

Like markets and parades, there’s no shortage of festivals happening in Huntsville either. Some of our favorites include:

Tons of smaller festivals happen all year long. Stick with Hville Blast for updates on which ones you can’t miss.
